Excuse me, Mr. UN Secretary General
The Paris Climate Agreement represents a delicate balance between the imperative of a clean energy transition and an acknowledgement of the need for differentiated responsibilities towards climate change based on both historical emissions and current energy use. The United Nations Secretary General knows this. So when someone in his position calls for all coal-based thermal projects to be stopped, they need to be more mindful of climate equity. I've worked on renewables for at least half my career, am a big fan of clean energy and believe that coal must be phased out. But this cannot be done without reference to who got us here and who consumes the most energy in the world today.
